Okay, I know today’s movie is Love Actually, but I find that movie problematic in too many ways to go into today. I will conseed the scene when Emma Thompson realises the jewellery is not for her, breaks my cold heart a little, but the rest of the movie leaves me with a shudder, – working-class stereotypes, creepy stalkers, awful representations of mental health – need I go on?
So as this is my blog and you’re not the boss of me, today’s movie choice is The Wizard of OZ.
Margret Hamilton as the wicked witch is terrifying. She was a school teacher before she became an actress, you know – imagine!
This is a film full of powerful women, from hard-working Aunt Em to the saccharine Glinda, Good Witch of the North and of course, the ever-brave Dorothy – all the archetypes a growing girl could need. ( ok maybe not the boring Glinda)
And why isn’t it a Christmas movie? Back in the Stone Age, when you could only watch a film if they put it on the telly, The Wizard of Oz was always on the telly at Christmas, therefore it’s a Christmas movie.
I’m also giving another shout out to Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
What would be your not-on-the-list-Christmas Movie?
and dont say Die Hard or we cant be friends.
So my little pretties, it’s Friday, call in sick to work and settle yourself on the sofa for a classic movie marathon of joy.
You do look a bit peaky, you know.
I also can’t deal with Love Actually and very frequently have to bite my tongue over it!
